I’m Gill, a newborn photographer in Boronia, Melbourne.

Hey, I’m Gill and I’m a lifestyle photographer based in the Outer Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, in Boronia. I’m a mum to 2 beautiful (sometimes exhausting) kids and have been a photographer for over 10 years. I’ve learnt so much about photography and story telling along the way. I have always loved newborn photos but it was my first born who really got me into it. I wanted to remember every little detail of her. I was so in awe of this little person I’d been growing for 9 months and despite the sleepless nights and exhaustion, I’m so glad I took photos of her as a newborn. I love looking back on them and she loves looking at them too. Those newborn photos have become an important part of our story and a keepsake for our family.

Why I love being a newborn photographer for Boronia and surrounding suburbs.

My family and I have lived in the area of Boronia for over 5 years now and we love the area for different reasons. Being a lifestyle photographer I choose not to have my own studio but love to photograph people in their homes or at a chosen outdoor location. I mostly take maternity, newborn or family photos and if I’m lucky, I get to photograph some families during all these special milestones. Even within the suburb of Boronia there are some beautiful locations for photos; reserves and parks with lots of trees and greenery that look beautiful as the sun sets. If I want some updated photos of my kids, I take them to one of these locations just around the corner from me. I love this because sometimes it’s just easier to not have to travel far and I can stay local in Boronia and I know I’ll still get beautiful results. Another thing I love about living in Boronia is that the Dandenong Ranges are not far at all. I have a few locations around the Kallista and Olinda area that I know well and often shoot at. They always look beautiful and are a regular favourite for maternity and family sessions too.

FAQs for Newborn photography

How do I book in my newborn session when I don’t know the exact date my baby will arrive?

I only take on a certain number of newborn shoots per month so it’s still best to book in asap. I will mark your due date in my calendar and once your baby has arrived, just get in touch and we will find a date within those first few weeks to suit us both.

Where will my newborn photos take place?

Most of my newborn sessions take place in home. This is the most convenient and comfortable option. However, another option is to also have them taken at an outdoor location. This is not always possible with Melbourne’s unpredictable weather but if this is more the look you’re after for your newborn photos then let’s give it a go and see if Melbourne weather cooperates!

What should I wear for my newborn photos?

This is something I get asked all the time! I think it’s also hard to plan when you’re pregnant and know that your body will be recovering. My best advice is to make sure you’re comfortable and focus on making sure colours compliment each other. Avoid big logos as we don’t want them being a distraction in your photos. Keep it simple.

How old should my baby be for newborn photos?

We usually say that newborn shoots are done within the first 2 weeks. However, if this doesn’t work out for whatever reason, we can also take them a couple of weeks later. You can also book in at a later date for family photos when your baby is a bit more interactive if this suits your better.
