I’m Gill, a maternity photographer in Boronia, Melbourne
Hi, I’m Gill, a lifestyle photographer based in the Outer Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, in Boronia. I’m a mum to 2 beautiful (sometimes exhausting) kids and have been a photographer for over 10 years. I’ve learned so much about photography and storytelling along the way.
Carrying a baby for nine months can be surreal and physically exhausting. At the time, it feels like those nine months will never end, but they do end and having maternity photos to remember that time is so important. My kids love looking back on my maternity photos of when they were in my belly, and despite feeling uncomfortable, I’m so glad I made an effort to have some photos taken so that I can now show them.
Why I love being a maternity photographer for Boronia and surrounding suburbs
My family and I have lived in the area of Boronia for over five years now, and we love the area for different reasons. Being a lifestyle photographer, I choose not to have my own studio but to photograph in people’s homes or various outdoor locations. This can be for maternity, newborn or family photos. Even within Boronia, some beautiful reserves with lots of trees and greenery look especially beautiful at sunset. I LOVE this. It means you don't have to travel far for stunning photos if you live within Boronia or one of the surrounding suburbs.
Another thing I love about being in Boronia is that the Dandenong Ran¬ges are not far at all. In fact, I’ve got a few locations I use in Kallista and Olinda, where I shoot frequently. They create ideal backdrops for maternity and family sessions.
What to expect at your maternity session with me in Boronia
Not many people feel 100% comfortable having their photo taken (it’s me!) and this is something I always take into consideration. Whether you choose to have the photos taken in your home or at an outdoor location, I’ll give you guidance on what to wear, where to stand etc, all while making the best use of the light and our surroundings. Partners and siblings are always welcome to be a part of your maternity sessions and the memories made on the day.
My goal is for your photos to look natural while celebrating your bump and this exciting time for you.

FAQs for Maternity photography
At what stage of my pregnancy should I book in my maternity session?
I love this job because it gives me the flexibility to work around my kids. However, it means I can only take on a certain number of shoots each month. I want to ensure enough time for each session and the editing process. So, if you’re thinking of booking in a maternity session, I suggest you contact me ASAP to discuss availability. Maternity sessions are usually scheduled between 34 – 37 weeks, when your bump is prominent, but you are still reasonably comfortable.
Where will my maternity photos take place?
Your maternity photos can be taken either in your home or at a location of your choice. Think of the look you want your photos to have. What backdrop would you be more comfortable in? If it’s the cooler months of Melbourne, maybe you’d prefer the cosiness of home rather than showing off your belly outdoors. If you’re undecided, I’m happy to discuss the options with you.
What should I wear for my maternity photos?
This is my most frequently asked question! First up, make sure you choose something you’re comfortable with. While you want to look your best, you still want to look like YOU. Choose colours you’d be happy to print and hang on your wall. Keeping it simple always works well; that way, it keeps the focus on your bump. You may also want to include some bare-belly photos in your session.
I’m more than happy for you to send me photos or ideas on what you’d like to wear and let you know what I think will work best from my previous experience.
Can I also book newborn photos with you?
Absolutely! Again, it’s essential to book this in with me sooner rather than later as I only book a certain number of newborns each month. I love meeting the babies I’ve photographed as a bump just a few weeks before, and it’s one of my favourite parts of my job.
I also have a special offer for booking a maternity AND a newborn session, so please let me know if you’d like more information on this option.
